Proposal: New Site UX V2

For the record, you haven’t thought through the reasoning why it makes sense TO put the wallet where it is. You are just pointing out that it isn’t what you have seen without considering the reasons why they put it there and others put it elsewhere.

Again, thank you for your feedback.
Reasoning has been provided, thanks again.
You have actually helped a LOT despite what this discussion seems to have become, so let’s take a step back and revisit with fresh eyes later.
I appreciate you, thank you @Gekonn

Honestly, I like the older look better from the first one :frowning: oh well. Maybe we can add themes in the future.

Let’s do a puzzle!
What would you love to see here that could bring back that simple ones feeling for you?

Maybe a switch (like the dark mode switch) to go from old to new? or be able to pick themes like dark said.

As many have said here this layout still focused on a power user. If that is the intent here then sure looks great. If Yearn wants to have a broader audience I think we need a simple 1-2-3 flow that encapsulates the user’s flow at the top. Not saying put a chevron but that needs to be the feeling. 3 steps and done. The reason Yam and YFV has gotten so many raves is how simple it was. Yes YAM and YFV have had technical issues with smart contracts but the UI/UX is simple and ease. That is what the current YFI site has a lot of now, simplicity. Simple is always best. This looks nice but eliminates simple. Please keep that in mind. Yes YFI needs a distinctive look since so many have forked it but simplicity has to be the main driver. I appreciate all the hardwork you’ve done but please notice several have said that the UI/UX presented misses the mark on the broad end user.

I liked the landing page from the old one. This one see too much like info dump. Why not add all the same features to both and make it switchable or make a simple, advanced ui button, like most cex’s have?

Is there somewhere I can see v2 on the web and use it?

Fantastic progress brother @uhmpeps, your work ethic is impressive. I also applaud your patience and humility in dealing with all the feedback.

Volunteering to build a website in public, in front of a large committee, is no easy task. Especially for a project this valuable, in a community with so many tech savvy people.

I understand the desire by some to keep the UI simple and direct, like Uniswap and the current yearn site. But there is a lot of relevant information to get across, and I think you’ve done a great job achieving that. Have you seen the YFV site (another YFI spinoff)? https://yfv.finance/staking
The project is turbulent, but the site is well designed and fun/easy to use, with useful data well displayed. You’ve captured a lot of that feel here with V2 as well.

My 2 cents: 1) Better Yearn/YFI branding. Even if it stays in the same location/size, flush it out a bit more. 2) Give the user more detail about how much they’ve earned once they’ve staked, because that really is the crucial data point, isn’t it? And it’s not great on the current site.

Thank you for the hard work.

Good point about the branding. There’s nothing about Yearn besides the logo in the defacto corner.

Leaving aside the UI that seems quite nice, I would say we don’t need a billion dollar agency but definitely we need a real ux researcher. It’s not obvious nice design works for all people. I would like to invest some money to investigate the user target make some interviews, create some personas, build a solid user journey thru the dapp and tested for its usability.

You good-naturedly designed something with a 3 level of information architecture on left side, many studies turn out to be hard to scan for people. We can’t say it’s good or bad we should investigate testing this prototype with people.

Please, some keep saying you want “real” but as I said before, you never know who a random person is in a forum. Please, let my work speak for me and you DYOR on what “real” means. How is it hard to imagine that you might have “real” already? Just because we are in a forum together? Do you not believe it to be possible that we may be speaking in the same thread?

That said, the user journey has already been designed, this mockup is just to confirm the end point of the journey, and I’m stepping backwards to build the rest.

Beyond that - all the constructive feedback is being noted! Thank you!

[1] - User newly landed on site, they see something like this https://mintr.synthetix.io/ (so we put the wallet prompt with footer stuff on left panel, and rest of space for the 4-5 step onboarding messages
[2] - When user logs in with Metamask, they will be on a fully blank page but with only full left panel visible. There will be a message on this page, explaining their options and encouraging them to pick one
[3] - Then user has picked Vault, but not picked an asset, panel 2 is visible, and panel 3 contains a message to choose an asset in panel 2
[4] - or Then user has picked Earn, but not picked an asset, panel 2 is visible, and panel 3 contains a message to choose an asset in panel 2
[5] - then this stuff that we are making first right now is shown. We’ll want descrption, table and chart for each one

Welcome to Yearn!
If you’ve never used the Yearn dApp before, read through this quick introduction first.

PREVIOUS / NEXT

What is Yearn?
Yearn improves capital efficiency with strategically profitable trustless liquidity deployment. Anyone can deposit accepted assets to Yearn to earn passive returns.

PREVIOUS / NEXT

Why use Yearn?
Using a Yearn product is like having access to the most advanced money manager in the world. Yearn helps depositors large and small save time, money and effort on active management and deployment of funds to the most profitable strategy at any time.

PREVIOUS / NEXT

Can’t I just do all this myself?
Yes, you could. However vaults help you save on gas, manage assets at healthy levels, auto-optimize for the highest yielding strategies at any time, even when you are sleeping… and most importantly, continually cycle and compound returns.

PREVIOUS / NEXT

What are the risks?
While the assets deposited can’t decrease, the debt of the vault can. If a strategy does not manage to outperform the debt, then a portion of the asset will be impermanently locked. If a strategy then outperforms the debt again, this asset will become unlocked. There are mechanisms in the vaults to help this not to happen, but nothing is foolproof. As of now, the Vaults have not been audited. There is also Smart Contract risk with any contracts that the vaults interact with.

thanks for sharing @uhmpeps – would be great to crowd-source this. there really needs to be more work done at this level.

I think you can’t do any consistent user journey without know your user group. You have not to know real people in a forum, you have to go deep researching different user type eg. defi millennials or crypto savers or institutionals. Inspecting their expectations, frustrations and goals thru defi products, then you will be more aware of their expectations and able to design something more calibrated.

That would be amazing TED. This is what we need.
The user enters in “simple” mode (current UX) and if he wants, he can click switch and go to “advanced” mode (new UX) where he can find detailed information, please consider this.

You guys are doing a GREAT job. Congratulations to @uhmpeps especially for his perseverance
